Who can provide support through the claims process?

The Scheme recognises the process of putting in a claim may bring up many painful and difficult memories for Aboriginal people, and may cause anxiety for some people until their claim has been determined.

Often records held on Aboriginal people contain hurtful comments and in many cases lies. It is recommended that when reading any records, you always have a support person of your choice with you.

As well as contacting the ATFRS Scheme Unit for advice and assistance, you can seek assistance from agencies such as:

  • Link-Up has appointed a specialised ATFRS worker who will be able to offer counselling and practical support to claimants. Link-Up can be contacted at any time on 1800 624 332.
